Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. After her father left the household, the actress was brought up by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. In her childhood Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford's love for acting grew when she was young. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. The school she was accepted to was Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she realized that this school wasn't right for her. Ford, instead of applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place on her third attempt she applied for and was awarded an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among her fellow students. Ford graduated in 1993. She already made a TV appearance in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate was also a regular performer in theatre and eventually joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season between 2000 and 2001. Tate started to get noticed for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
